Last month a fantastic wedding weekend took place on the emerald isle, on the rugged coastline of Dunmore East.
Liam and Vicky, who both have a this special part of Ireland sown into their hearts, created a weekend like no other with the help of their wonderful family and friends.
The location for the ceremony would be on the remote and often used as a film movie location that is Dollar Bay and the reception would be held on at Dunmore East Golf Club.
Leading up to the wedding I was very excited to be part of such a unique wedding story,
Of course weather was one of the big players in this story, right up until the morning of the wedding it was unconfirmed as to whether it would be possible to have the wedding on the beach due to the weather forecast.
But on the morning of the wedding Liam sent a text to all guests that the wedding ceremony would take place on Dollar Bay, a bay that is a short ferry ride across from Dunmore East.
I arrived on the friday afternoon and drove across from Shannon airport to Dunmore East, the drive was pleasant and with some good tunes I soon reached my destination, with a good amount of time ahead so that I could visit all the locations that the area had to offer.
On arrival at Victoria’s family home, I was kindly shown some cracking locations by Clare, Vicky’s mum.
As we walked around the local beauty spots the weather really picked up and it was fascinating to see the huge waves crashing onto the harbour.
Soon it was time for the Pre Wedding evening meal, which I took the opportunity to attend to capture some candid photos of the evening and also get to meet up with Liam’s family and also meet up again with Vicky’s sister Lizzie & her husband Ben, who’s wedding I photographed last year.
I always find on destination weddings that the friday evening acts as a great way to break the ice and say hello.
The next day, I woke up to sunlight at the The Strand Inn Hotel but it was also clear that the weather was going to be very changeable……
I made my way up to Vicky’s family home where I captured the girls getting ready and all the fun atmosphere that was starting to build.
Meanwhile since around 8am, Liam and his Ushers had been over on Dollar bay transporting chairs onto the beach in order to set up for the ceremony.
The weather was still dodgy but the plan was to go ahead…..
Soon Ben the ‘’best man’’ came over and picked me up from the ‘’Moorings’’ in his classic Porsche 911…….
We stopped off and quickly collected Liam…..
Next, on to the ferry and over to Dollar bay, the rain was starting to fall as guests arrived the wind and rain whipped in.
But somehow and against all the weather gods and odds, Vicky got her dream…….for when she arrived on her fathers arm, she walked and made her way down onto the beach from the tops of the cliffs. I understand that Vic had always dreamed that one day she would get married on Dollar beach as she had spent so many happy family memories at this location.
During the ceremony the rain did appear for a few minutes and in fact the rain did add to the carnival atmosphere.
Soon, I quickly got to work creating a tunnel for the confitti shot and then it was onto group photos and portraits which were very atmospheric with the waves crashing in and the light hitting us, it almost made the images look like we were in the Caribbean ha ha ha!
Next up it was back to Dunmore east for some more photos and where Vicky laid her Wedding Bouquet at her late grand mothers grave side…….a touching moment for a photographer to document.
Soon it was up to Dunmore East Golf Club, perched on top of the sea cliffs in such a fantastic location, and after the beautiful food had been served I captured a few more evening shots as the magic hour was looking amazing.
The superb music band soon came on to perform and the guests and the all new Mr & Mrs Thomas partied the night away……………..
On a personal level, I would like to say a huge thank you to Liam and Vicky for making me part of such a special weekend.
Have a great honeymoon guys….
Special thanks for all the wonderful suppliers.
